Case Study – Reading Is FUNdamental Storymobile
Valero Service customized a Ford E-450 chassis and built the Storymobile for the Pittsburgh Reading Is FUNdemental program.
The Storymobile is a library-on-wheels, taking stories, activities, books, and literacy resources to early childhood centers, pre-K and kindergarten classrooms, after-school programs, public housing communities, and special events across our city. In bi-weekly visits, the Storymobile team leads innovative programming designed to build literacy skills, expand content knowledge, and get children excited about reading and learning.
The program is designed to introduce students to the joy of reading; expose them to challenging subject matter, including math and science themes, in a way that they embrace and enjoy; and reinforce the skills recommended by state and federal curricula. We also work to engage parents, grandparents, caregivers, and other family members, with events and activities designed to reach the entire community.
The Valero team crafted a customized van body with interior display shelving and cabinet systems, including technology, onto the vehicle to showcase the many books, games, activities and resources for easy community access. The unit’s painting and graphics were handled by Valero’s paint shop and graphics team.
