Case Study – Monrovia Mobile Literacy Merchandising Vehicle
Valero Service built the Mobile Literacy Van for the “Monrovia Reads” program for the City of Monrovia California.
The van visits the city’s five local elementary schools, providing books to the district’s 2,500 elementary school age children. It also attends community events, including Monrovia Area Partnership (MAP) events, the annual Spring Egg Hunt, Foothill Unity Center’s Back to School event, and other opportunities throughout Monrovia.
The van features books and 21st Century skills-building learning activities. The vehicle makes regular stops at each elementary school after dismissal during the school year. At each visit, staff process new library card applications, enabling immediate access to the library’s online resources as well as the main library’s larger collection.
Utilizing a street-legal GEM eLXD, Valero’s team crafted a customized display shelving systems onto the all-electric vehicle to showcase the many library books for community access. The units painting and graphics were handled by Valero’s paint shop and graphics team.
